Field Notes

Description:

A western kingbird pair built a nest on a telephone utility pole next to a highway (that I happen to live right next to). In the first photo, one of the adults had flown off and came back with a grasshopper to feed the young. The second photo shows some odd behavior that I noticed. When the adults would land, they would almost always open their wings and tail for some reason. Then they would close their wings and tail and sit normal (3rd picture). In the last picture, the adult was looking at me!

Habitat:

The nest of this bird is in a utility pole next to the 4 lane highway.
