Field Notes

Description:

Pterophoridae; Ochyroticinae; Ochyrotica; Ochyrotica yanoi Arenberger,1988. This moth was difficult to find on the internet because my favourite source for moths, Philippine Lepidoptera, does not have this species in their collection. That caused me to doubt that this was a Plume Moth. So, I found myself searching for this one on unfamiliar sites on the internet. Luckily, I found it on inaturalist.org and, of course, once I had a species name, it was easy to confirm the identification and the distribution.

Habitat:

This Plume Moth was spotted in a rice field which was left uncultivated this season to allow the land to rest. When we do this, an amazing variety of grasses and foliage springs up very quickly and creates what I like to call a tropical meadow.
