Field Notes

Description:

The yellow day lily does not seed but reproduces from the roots. Each flower lasts only one day. Interesting fact--every part of the plant is edible. The flower buds taste like green beans when cooked and served with butter.

Habitat:

These yellow day lilies were spotted in a garden at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC.
