Description:

This little tortoise was about 4" long. They can grow to over 12", and are known for their burrowing ability. Gopher tortoise burrows are used by a number of other creatures as well.

Habitat:

These tortoises are found in scrub, grasslands, and open woods. This one was in a lawn border.
