Description:

Similar to Monarch, as shown.

Habitat:

Nectaring on wild alfalfa along mostly dry streambed (arroyo) in degraded shortgrass prairie habitat.

Notes:

This is not a resident butterfly this far north along the Front Range. Males are easily identified by the dark scent patches on the hindwings.
