Field Notes
Description:
Feb 11, 2015 - ID Updated to Rhynchium atrum following MarcoSelis' ID suggestion.
=========
My spotting looks the same with Rhynchium haemorrhoidale, except for the orange coloration of the abdomen of R. haemorrhoidale. Pics 3-4 showing white on the eye due only to camera flash.
Rhynchium is an Australian, Afrotropical, Indomalayan and Palearctic genus of potter wasps. Family Vespidae, Subfamily Eumeninae.
This Eumenid wasp is almost black all over, with orange antennae, partial orange on its face, thorax, first pair of legs, and wings. There's a mention in the reference link I have on the Notes section, of a subspecies in the Philippines, Rhynchium haemorrhoidale atrum Saussure, but I could not find any photo of it.
Habitat:
Backyard.
