Field Notes

Description:

An orangutan grinning behind a cover of leaves and branches. As the most intelligent animal in the Bornean rainforest, the orangutan is opportunistic and will try her luck with these spiky figs. Spiky figs are not evolved for most mammals as the soft skin and mouthparts of mammals will easily get them hurt when trying to handle these fruits. However, I'm sure this orangutan can figure a way out.

Habitat:

Found in logged forest. Secondary forests which has been logged seems to have more orangutans than primary rainforest.

Notes:

This was recorded during our few days observation to document the ecological value of this fig species as an important species for our reforestation projects.
