Field Notes

Description:

FL soft-shell turtle laying her eggs in my front yard. Shell is about 12" oblong.
Takes 2 mo. for eggs to hatch. They come back to same place every yr.
2nd photo is last yr. She had a piece of water plant stuck on her head;
looked like a hat!
Had 12 babies last yr. so any day now should be this family. I was fortunate enough to notice them crawling out the day they hatched or I would have missed them. They know exactly where they're going and they were heading
right over to the river across the street, so I had to catch them first in this tray so the neighbor kids could see and then we took them over to the river and launched them by the shore.
