Field Notes

Description:

Two different wood bison from a herd of 30+ animals.

Habitat:

Sub-arctic forest.

Notes:

The herd to which these individuals belonged ranged on either side of the highway. The individual in the second picture was leading a female and a calf along the road shoulder, right past my open window. As I took the picture, it exhaled. The report was most impressive. The link provides much useful information on this sub-species, not least the fact that the wood bison is the largest terrestrial animal in North America.
