Field Notes

Description:

This is another type of Cracker Butterfly, yellow underneath, usual spots on the top of the wings but with one orange squares on each wing.
They all seem to be the same size, I would say on the large size.
My observations: Very sensitive to noise/movement. They open and close the wings when feeding, very sensitive to noise, when they come back they take a long time to land to keep feeding. Head down when resting.

Yes, it is the Orange Cracker, Hamadryas fornax fornacalia.
I had a spotting last year of a Orange Cracker,Hamadryas fornax fornacalia, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/13149033 wondering if it is the same kind of butterfly?!
Thank you so much, KarenSaxton, I had so many variations of Crackers in my garden, from yellow or red bottoms with 2 orange squares on the top wings to also 2 to 4 orange eyes in the top wings....I am truly confused with the names!! : (
There are several sub species - this seems the most logical one
