Field Notes

Description:

With a wingspan that can be as little as 15 mm, this is one of the smallest European butterflies. The dorsal view for both male and female is a dull brown with some bluish overtones. The undersides are a silvery grey with a black dot pattern similar to that of Cupido osiris; in this latter species the males are bright blue.

Habitat:

Found mud-puddling on the path in an alpine pasture, alt. ~1700 m. Last picture is of habitat.
