Convolvulus Hawk Moth ♀

A female Convolvulus Hawk Moth, Agrius convolvuli (Linnaeus, 1758). This one came in from the rain, bringing with it some dirt sticking at its body. It is not yet strong for flight, but was able to fly a short distance and just settled on the leaf of our Welcome Plant.

Agrius convolvuli is sexually dichromatic, with female often considerably larger than male, and ground color of forewing light to dark grey, with dark patches and markings which can be either extensive (in males) or absent (in females).
