Description:

These two dragonflies were mating by my fishpond (last photo). When the male flew off, the female began dipping into the pond, which is ovipositing behavior.

I had the same thought, Tiz; perhaps she had mated previously and already had eggs available to deposit.
I saw the same last weekend. (but your photos came ut much better than mine :) ) The behaviour of the female made me think about egg laying, but strange if it happens 1 minue after mating...
