Description:

A native plant to Illinois, coontail (also known as rigid hornwort) can be found in still or slow moving waters throughout Illinois. Each leaflet consists of six to eight stiff threads, and the whole plant usually occurs in a bushy mass.

Still or slow moving waters throughout Illinois

Notes:

Not as common as other aquatic flora, but there are some ponds that can be dominated with this weed during certain parts of the year.
