Lubber Grasshopper (nymph stage)

The Lubber grasshopper is a large and very colorful species of grasshopper. They get their name due to their clumsy slow movements (lubber = lobre = lazy/clumsy). The nymph stage of a lubber is much smaller than the adults and is black with usually yellow stripes and reddish legs. As adults they grow wings that are too small to support them. They are flightless, thus their clumsy stature. Adults assume a variety of bold colors such as yellow and orange.
