Field Notes

Description:

This "Staggerbush" is very different from the scrub's ubiquitous "Rusty Lyonia". The leaves aren't curled under, nor is it velvety-rusty underneath. The leaves are generally larger as well.

Our guide said to look for a light colored vein around the outermost perimeter of the leaf which gives the leaf a fairly rigid feel to it.

Habitat:

These were photographed in Lyona Preserve, in Deltona. A lovely oak-rosemary scrub.

Notes:

The blooms I photographed are actually the "remnants" of the flowers.. just the bracts. ("Just the bracts, ma'am..." lol) But if the left-overs are this pretty, I'd love to see the actual blossoms!
