Description:
It is a large seal of the family Phocidae or "true seals", bulls reaching 2.5–3.3 m and weighing 170–310 kg.
During the winter months grey seals can be seen hauled out on rocks, islands, and shoals not far from shore, occasionally coming ashore to rest. In the spring recently weaned pups and yearlings occasionally strand on beaches after becoming separated from their group.
North Atlantic Ocean.
Habitat:
They can be found in the North of UK. This spotting took place in Fetlar I. (Shetlands).
Notes:
They are distinguished from the harbor seals because the latter have a more dog-like muzzle whereas the grey seal has a more greek-like nose muzzle.
