Description:

For what I see in the web site below the red colored breast and head are males in breeding plumage and the more white grey colored are females or adults in non breeding plumage.

Habitat:

Northern beaches, Unst

Calidris ferruginae has a red breast and belly in summer and a longer, downcurved bill at all times so is easily separated. Calidris minuta usually has a pale or white V on the back and is clearly much smaller when seen together with Sanderling so again is easily separated. Calidris temmincki is also much smaller and has a hind toe whereas Calidris alba does not. I think these are all Calidris alba.
