Field Notes

Habitat:

Western ghats (Sahayadri Mountains), Maharasthra, India

Notes:

Looks like a mimic of the Euploea core.
I spotted this one in the same area and on the same day as this spotting
http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/32873012
Initially thought that both of them are same, but when I sat down with the photographs for upload, noticed that the pattern on the wings is slightly different.
Also the wings are spread out horizontally like moths
Appreciate an id.

@Daniele Thanks for the links. I don't know much when it comes to identifying species. However with PN I now have a world wide forum to reach out to. Happy to learn more.
You're welcome Vishal. You'll find the Indian Butterfly Foundation site excellent, as it lists local species as well. You'll first need to familiarize yourself with the major families to help narrow down your search if you're interested in identification. Here's some useful reading: http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/48198637296/lepidoptera-part-3 http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/48440401780/lepidoptera-part-4 You've started a nice collection, looking forward to see more from you.
@Daniele Thanks for the identification. As mentioned in my notes, I was sure that it was not Euploea core, but didn't know which one. And yes it is confusing, especially if both species are spotted in the same area on the same day :).
Hi Vishal! The only thing in common between this butterfly and Euploea core is that they both have some brown and white, but tha't's it :-). I know it can all be very confusing. This is one of the skippers, from the family Hesperiidae.
