Field Notes

Description:

Family: Saturniidae, Subfamily: Ceratocampinae. (Royal Silkworm Moths) Male - feathery antennae. TL 26 mm. FW has bright pink basal area and broad pale yellow median band that reaches apex. ST area may be yellow or pink. Plus yellow thorax is dense with hair. Hosts: Maple and oak.

Habitat:

Woodlands, yards, gardens and meadow area wherever host trees are found. Came to light.

Notes:

The 2nd most common moth I have seen this season.
