Field Notes

Description:

Bird grasshopper metamorphosis (nymph to adult).

The same grasshopper was observed on the same plant for several days during which the metamorphosis took place.

Habitat:

It literally lived on the foliage of the (host) plant- feeding, excreting and basking on it.

Notes:

The grasshopper is known to flash its two-row spiked hind legs when alarmed. It stays poised to give its assailant a brutal kick, or to simply hop off.
