Field Notes

Description:

Large, virtually all-orange dragonfly. Male has broad orange patches on wings, uniformly slender abdomen.

Habitat:

Female "disturbed habitat" of degraded shortgrass prairie with thicket of elm trees adjacent to riparian corridor with cottonwood trees. Male patrolling and perching in deep "ditch" with lush reeds, eroded rocky substrate.
