In this case it would be Rhinella marina, indeed.
Yes he was big. He was about 12cm wide. At least 3 times bigger than the toads I'm used of seeing. Would need both hands to hold him. Poor dear had his leg caught in a grating in the side walk. I tried not to touch him too much because I wasn't sure what species he was and had heard the cane toad has a toxin but I couldn't leave him stuck.
Looks like being Rhinella marina or formerly Bufo marinus, Cane Toad. Do you have any idea of the size. Should be quite large. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cane_toad
