Field Notes

Description:

Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula), skull.

Habitat:

Dry sclerophyll bushland.

Notes:

Skeletal remains are common in the Australian bush. Conditions here seem to reduce the carcases to skeletons quickly, but preserve the bones cleanly for quite some time.

Thanks Lori, if you know of any others that are good ID guides I would love to know about them!
Mickila, the book is called "Tracks, Scats and Other Traces: A Field Guide to Australian Mammals", by Barbara Triggs. Printed by Oxford University Press.
Hi Lori, What is the title and author of the book in the background please? I am looking for an animal id book for small Australian mammals and þhat looks perfect.
Thanks Emily, I liked the effect as well. Also, I'm very fond my extensive library of plant and animal identification books, and was happy to show one off a little.
I love this photo with the book for ID! Brilliant!
