Field Notes

Description:

About 60mm long and 15mm thick; dark head with short antennae and strong pincer-like mouth parts; six yellow forelegs; folds and diagonal hathcing on body; fat tail section with dark internal and short orange coloured hairs; orange hairs also on and around legs.

Habitat:

Found in dense woodchip mulch at hospital entrance under planted eucalyptus and introduced deciduous tree species.

Notes:

I'm not sure why this grub was exposed at such a cold time of the year. Maybe they climb before developing further?

Thanks Emily. This camera is a Casio pocket camera about 5 years old now. The important thing was to learn how to use it... which took 4.9 years :-)
What a great macro shot! What kind of camera do you use? (I want one!)
