Wood Turtle of North America
Glyptemys Insculpta
41.9268, -73.0674
Field Notes
Habitat:
North America near wide rivers, shallow streams and in forests or grasslands near bodies of water. In same classification with Bog Turtles.
Notes:
On our way home from Salisbury, Conecticut, we were driving on Route 44 headed into Winsted, and he was on the side of the road. We picked him up and moved him safely across the road as it has traffic going about 45 mph and I was worried he would get hit by a car. He was about 8-9 inches and from what i have read, most likely a fully grown male. Just beautiful, in my opinion. It as my first time ever seeing a wood turtle and as I have been reading, they are listed as endangered, so it is little wonder this would be my first time seeing one! I had a hard time getting my 2 photos up from cell to tablet and apologise for the "screen shot"!
