Description:

Family: Saturniidae, Subfamily: Hemileucinae (Buck Moths) Female.Sexually dimorphic. Bronzy gray to purplish pink/red. Yellow HW has a red streak along inner margin and a large blue eyespot boldly outlined in black. Hosts: Deciduous trees, shrubs and plants such as clover, corn, maple, oak and willow. . Adults do not feed.

Habitat:

Woodlands, lawns, gardens, meadows where host plants are.

Great shot Carol! . . . Yeah, thats the way they protect themselved from predators; normally the wings and slightly closed and when a predator comes near by, they open and close the wings, the two bright yellow circles represent the ''eyes'' and the predator will be fooled!
