Well done Vishal ! Thanks - I've learnt something new today. Thought it looked like another plant "Sow Thistle" but it's obviously not..
@Leuba I have finally learned the right name for this one thanks to experts on another nature portal. http://indiabiodiversity.org/observation/show/326419 You were right about the silky seeds. I think I have photographed those as well, although at that time I didn't know that those seeds belonged to this plant.
Leuba, I spent time browsing through the flower catalogue. However wasn't able to spot the exact matches for this and other wild flowers that I have spotted. I guess for a newbie the huge list is overwhelming. Maybe I can find some local experts to guide me :)
Sorry to confuse you Vishal, I was not referring to the cobweb when I mentioned the seeds :) I might be wrong, but what you see in your photo might be seed heads with silk for dispersion. I've seen this plant in Kodaikanal many times but it's frustrating because I can't remember the flower - it always reminded me of miniature thistles. Good luck with the ID and I'd like to know when you find out what it is...
@Leuba This is a plant that is seen mostly in the wild and the flowers are seasonal. I haven't got pictures of the whole thing. I don't know if it has silky seeds. However in case you are referring to the silky strands that you see in the picture those are from a spider's web. Thanks for the catalog. I'll check it out.
I think this plant produces silky seeds. I remember this plant from years ago but I can't recall the type of flowers it has. You need to have photos of the whole plant with leaves etc for identification. You could have a look at http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/yellow.html Hope this helps, Vishal.
