Field Notes

Description:

Wings and body pure, gleaming white, separated from other all-white moths by wing shape and stout, hairy body. Male antennae orangish. Wingspan 2.7-3.3 cm.
Food plants are hackberry and redbud.
April - May; July - Sept.
Range Wash. D.C. to Florida, west to se. Mo. and La.
Rare northward; Common in Florida

Habitat:

woodland, edge of woods.
I live in rich, mesic forest with lots of redbuds on my property.

Notes:

The larvae of this moth have stinging spines.
