Sorry that I didn't respond for such a long time. The mission is "Orthoptera in the Northeastern U.S.".
That's a very nice spotting. May I use the picture as the picture for a mission that I'm creating?
Tettigoniidae, Phaneropterinae, Steirodontini, Steirodon sp. or the subgenus Peucestes, so Steirodon (Peucestes) sp.. I cannot tell you the exact species. Steirodon alfaroi is found in your area, here is my nymph of it: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8081380 https://www.flickr.com/photos/dominikhofer/4400869766/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/dominikhofer/4411409184/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/dominikhofer/4411027046/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/dominikhofer/4411404906/ Another one: http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/ShowImage.aspx?TaxonNameID=1139414&ImageID=103694 http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/ShowImage.aspx?TaxonNameID=1139414&ImageID=103693 https://www.flickr.com/photos/andreaskay/7045167807/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/mcampis/8685870566/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/andreaskay/8720367968/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthpicturegalleries/9036671/Cowboy-frog-and-armoured-catfish-new-species-discovered-in-Suriname.html?image=14 http://www.notre-planete.info/photos/photo.php?id=4850 Similar one, but most probably ID not correct, it is another genus, I IDed it before, but cannot remember the name: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6434465 Good job, Siggi!
It seems to be a Crested Katydid of the genus Steirodon. If you want to spend some time determining what species, you can check out this page, http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1139397 Click on the species names to go to pages with images of specimens. Keep in mind that the green color fades in the preserved specimens.
It looks like one but this one it's really cool.
