Field Notes

Description:

The Flowering Dogwood is the state flower for North Carolina. Unfortunately, in our area nearly 99% of all the Dogwoods are infected with Dogwood Anthracnose which has an extremely high mortality rate in these beautiful trees. I did not photograph it, but even this Dogwood that has grown in my side yard since before the site was cleared is heavily infected.

Habitat:

Mixed forest.
