Field Notes

Description:

Wasp approx. 4cm long, observed flying on 35 degree day, entered a small hole in the ground, emerging several minutes later. Re-entered the hole a short time later, a nest?

Notes:

Size and wing pattern are similar to the Ti-tree Fly

Although the spotted are distant geographically, they may be flying at the same time, a possible mimic candidate?

Awesome, cheers Mark
That's a cracker Vinny. Definitely Pompilidae but I can't find an exact match yet. Those wings are very similar to the Ti-tree fly but the leg colour is way out. Nice find. I'm sure we'll track this one down.
