Description:

Xestoleptura is one of several genera in the tribe Lepturini recognizable for its species yellow and black-striped elytra. This is the variant #2 of Xestoleptura crassicornis which is characterized by a black thorax and head. Variant #1 has a yellowish - orange thorax and head. Both have a glossy elytra with similar patterns.

Habitat:

Spotted in the backyard on a grape leaf. Range is Western North America to Southern California.

Notes:

One of the interesting characteristics of this Flower longhorned beetle is it is attracted to plant volatiles, especially blue elderberry (Sambucus nigra cerulea) - in Northern California.
