Description:

Cluster of black shelf fungi growing on a birch tree stump. Each "plate" averages three inches wide. The underside is light colored with orange spores.

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest lowland suburban area.

Notes:

Spotted in a backyard in Southeast Portland.
