Field Notes

Description:

Largely white with dark stripe on back. Beak is touched by blue where it meet the body and black tipped; yellow in between. The head bears a pigtail of feathers.

Habitat:

This one was sitting on the room that houses my neighbour's electric meter box.

Notes:

Its legs change colour in the breeding season, turning from green to bright yellow during the months of March to September. Some individuals even have red legs; a feature which has been reported in about two percent of the population in southern and western India. (http://www.arkive.org/indian-pond-heron/ardeola-grayii/)
