Field Notes

Description:

No, this is not an arctic wasp. The nest reminds me of an icicle and I needed a labet to differentiate from other wasps. These are small, a little over 1 cm black wasps.

Habitat:

The nest is very unique. It is the only one like it that I have seen. The nest was about 15 cm long. It appears to be a paper wasp nest and was in a grapefruit tree in our front yard in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

I wish I had paid attention to what happened to it, but forgot about it. Later when I checked it was gone. I've not seen another since.
