Field Notes

Description:

Black bear, probably a juvenile, ~ 1.5m long on all fours, probably ~ 2m tall standing on its hind legs.

Habitat:

Sub-arctic forest.

Notes:

Spotted along the Alaska Highway. This individual was browsing in roadside grass when I got out of my vehicle and slowly approached it. When I was about 30m away, the bear took note of me and raised its head. I took posted picture, and retreated to the safety of my vehicle. The bear resumed browsing.
