Description:
Small flying insect, looking like a mosquito but not biting. Chironomus are very environmentally important as they lay eggs in aquatic environments and their larva are very useful for sediment bioturbation and oxygenation.
Males of Chironomus plumosus are characterized by their feathery antenna as in this photo.
