Field Notes

Description:

Common roadside and pasture flower in the Southeast U.S. It isn't called Sneezeweed because it bothers people with allergies but, apparently, because people once dried and crushed the leaves and used them as snuff. Who knew? A member of the daisy family.

Notes:

Slightly toxic to animals. Also called Bitterweed because milk from cows who eat it has a slightly bitter taste.

Thanks, Marta, I feel the same way.
I love to see all these wild flowers from your area, that are so different from the ones in mine. Keep posting! :-)
