Field Notes

Description:

Typical swooping and soaring behavior. Forked tail, pied coloration. Some vocalizations.

Habitat:

Open forest and grass land. Flying above a park with soccer fields.

Notes:

I pulled off the I-95 exit for Stuart and drove down Lost River Rd to observe what I thought was one kite flying. As I looked into the sky I noticed two, three, then four kites. In total I counted a minimum of fourteen kites flying at one time. I could hear them vocalizing as well. I had never seen so many kites in one place.

What a great sight that must have been!! I have added the scientific name. This is a very important piece of information as it removes the spotting from the unidentified portion of our database. Thanks for adding it to the Raptor mission!
