There is also a magnolia hybrid, called Saucer magnolia, that looks a lot like this. Magnolia liliiflora is one of its parents. The two might be a little hard to tell apart, and I don't think anyone would quibble with a Magnolia liliiflora ID ... but here's a link if you would like to take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saucer_magnolia.
