Field Notes

Description:

The pictures say it all. Flying black bug with six legs one big white band and a couple smaller white marks on an otherwise black body.

Habitat:

Back yard in a suburban neighborhood.

Notes:

It made its nest in a hole in our metal patio furniture. It proved to be a mistake. It was removing it's surviving larvae to safety, and dropping the dying and dead ones on the ground for the ants. It's been 95 degrees almost every day, I'm guessing the metal was cooking them.
