Field Notes

Description:

Brown overall on underside of wings. Inner-wings are orange and have a series of black spots, while it slowly gets darker towards the bottom. Inner-hindwing is lined with white.The silver mark on the underside of the hindwing is broken into two parts, a curved line and a dot, creating a ?-shaped mark that gives the species its common name.

Habitat:

Found on mulch pile, probably puddling for minerals.

Notes:

This guy sat very still making it easy to get tons of photos to choose from.
