Field Notes

Description:

Small snapping turtle, possibly only a year or two of age. These are heavy-bodied aquatic turtles and typically grow to around 30 to 35 pounds as adults. Brown in color, often with three slight ridges along the carapace.

Habitat:

Ponds, streams and swamps. Females are often seen when crossing roads to lay their eggs.

Notes:

This one was actually docile and didn't seem to mind being handled at all. We moved it out of the road.
