Field Notes

Description:

Giant Silkworm Moth. Family: Saturniidae, Subfamily: Saturniinae. Wingspan:75-105 mm. Male (large feathery antennae) Apple green wings marked with elliptical eyespots outlined yellow, white and black. HW has long, slightly twisted tails. Hosts: Deciduous trees. Adults do not eat. No mouthparts.

Habitat:

Wherever host trees are. Neighborhoods, meadows, near woodlands. Comes to light.

Notes:

My neighbor find the Luna Moth on his garage and brought it over to me. And this is his favorite moth! I am so fortunate to have nice neighbors and friends.
