Field Notes

Description:

Family: Notodontidae (Prominents) TL: 22-27 mm. Tawny brown Fw often has reddish shading along costa. Brown lines are almost parallel. Blackish orbicular spot and apical dash are often noticeable. Outer margin is slightely scalloped. Red/orange body. Hosts: Birch, blueberry, witch hazel.

Habitat:

Woodlands and gardens

Notes:

Just didn't feel confident enough to go with a more specific ID of Drexel's Datana Moth (Datana drexelii), but that is what I believe this is. But others are just too close with the markings such as Spotted Datana (Datana perspicua)
