Field Notes

Description:

Family: Lyonetiidae and Yponomeutidae. This common bright-colored, but narrow Yponomeutidae moth feeding on purple coneflowers. Total length: 11-15 mm. Reddish orange FW is boldly patterned with wide black-edged bands of pale yellow spots. Hosts: Ailanthus, also other deciduous trees and shrubs.

Habitat:

Gardens and meadows/fields. Feeding on Purple Coneflowers in my neighbors front yard garden area.

Notes:

Disappointed I only got this one photo and haven't seen anymore yet.
