Description:

spent some minutes temporarily settled with buzzing wings before finally finding a satisfactory location to stop. length around 16mm

I think we've got the family Arctiidae pegged but @ Uday - my moth certainly resembles E. acrea however that species is restricted to N.America and my spot is in southern Africa. I'm leaning towards Eyralpenus sp, an Ermine moth - E.sublutea, the Yellow Ermine moth: www.africanmoths.com/page/ARCTIIDAE/ARCTIINAE/eyralpenus_sublutea.htm looks close but the spot pattern is not quite right
