Field Notes

Habitat:

Found flying over the Gulf pf Mexico. Many of them were attracted to flowers on the edge of the beach. The wind was strong and blowing them out over the water.

Notes:

I was paddling my kayak and something caught my eye above. A dragonfly had grabbed this butterfly and they were struggling. The Fritillary got free and fell to the water. There were many dragonflies and butterflies flying above the water. I began watching them and observed dragonflies attempting to capture butterflies over and over sometimes two going after one butterfly. It reminded me of WWI fighter planes dogfighting.
