Field Notes

Description:

This Pupa seems to have construct a mesh/net to protect itself.

Habitat:

Tropical forest

Notes:

Am curious how the Butterfly that emerges from it eventually gets out of 'jail'.

Close-up pics of the Pupa was through the mesh/net and not damaged/broken

How bizarre! This is a cocoon? I would never have thought of a 'jail break', but ideal to keep those annoying insects at bay!
@SukanyaDatta - I saw a post on FB (Mothing & Moth-watching) of similar post and they identified it as pupa of Moth from Family Immidae.
@SukanyaDatta - unfortunately, it is no longer at the place I found it :( This was found not on overhanging branches, as you can see from the pic, it is on top of the leaf, which is itself a bit unusual as I usually see Pupa attached under leaves. And it is not very high, just less than 1 meter height and just on the side of the trail, and the plant was probably damaged by other hikers. Someone suggested if I could take it to monitor the eclosion as that will be helpful to identify it. Maybe next time, if I see similar thing again in the future.
I want to 'see' the jail break too...will it be possible at all to go back from time to time, Albert?
